The 2009 Eastern Sierra Rod Makers Gathering held on the Weekend of the 10th of October 2009

The 2009 Eastern Sierra Rod Makers gathering was held on the 9th, 10th and 11th of October 2009 on Bridgeport Lake, in Bridgeport, Mono County, California.

On Friday night, a few makers arrived for discussions, drinks and hors d'oeuvres and for some of my award winning wines.

Mother nature did cooperate very well as the weather was excellent and we had very little wind when casting in the lake.

It was also a dry year, so the water in the lake was very low.

The Bridgeport Lake was as smooth as glass so we took the opportunity to do some casting before the mountain winds developed.

There were plenty of interesting and well-made rods to cast but we had to walk a few hundred feet to the water.

Daryll and Forrest appear to be having an interesting discussion!
The lake bed was a little soggy but that didn't stop any casting.
The dueling bevelers were interesting... :-)
Here is John demonstrating his tapering beveler that Forrest made for him. John is now in Santiago Chile for a couple of years and we are all looking forward to visiting him and having him return.
Everyone was impressed with the accuracy of the beveled strips.
Here is a view of a strip on a tapering template.
However, not everyone was in total agreement... ;-)
Mike gave a good demonstration on fluting with his Morgan Hand-Mill.

All in all, it was a good gathering with a very good turnout and excellent weather. Hope to see everyone again in 2010.
